Rectal Prolapse: What is it and How Can it be Cured?

This is just as excruciating as it sounds regrettably, and can leave you not being assured if you need to go the toilette or not. Yes, it can be rectal prolapse.

What is rectal prolapse?

Rectal prolapse befalls when the rectum (the last segment of the large intestine) tumbles from its usual location within the pelvic zone. The word "prolapse" means a tumbling down or sliding of a body part from its normal site.

The term rectal prolapse can refer to three types of prolapse:

  • the whole rectum lengthens out of the anus
  • only a part of the rectal lining is pushed via the anus
  • the rectum starts to drop away but does not extend out the anus i.e. internal prolapse

Rectal prolapse is common in elder adults with a longstanding history of constipation or feebleness in the pelvic floor muscles. It is more prevalent in ladies than in men but befalls in younger individuals too. Rectal prolapse can also take place in infants or children as well.

Treatment

These days, most people prefer to go for rectal prolapse treatment without surgery which includes intake of certain herbal medicines. The best part is that this approach is free of any harmful side-effects. It also identifies and eliminates the elementary causes of the ailment instead of superficial treatment or just overturning the symptoms.
